Nairn Academy Business Breakfast 2017

We were delighted to share with you our very successful Business Breakfast which  ran along side the launch of our Breakfast Club. We also welcomed STV Big Scottish Breakfast into school on Friday 27 October 2017.

The Business Breakfast hosted 18 Employers from the local area.

A BIG thank you to all our employers that attended –

Mindfulness Training, UHI, BT, Barnardos, New Start, Jacobs, SSE, Farmer Jones, Manor Care Centre, Johnston and Carmichael, Lifescan, Highlife Highland YDO, Highlife Highland ASC, HiHope, GHRL, DYW Inverness, CITB and STV.

The pupils were given a list of questions prior to the event to allow them to prepare ideas or add questions that they felt was relevant to them. The pupils had 3 minutes with each employer. We have received feedback from the employers noting how well the event went, how engaged the young people were and how delighted they were to be part of it. We are looking to continue work on this for our next event.

Overall it was a very successful event.

DYW up and running!

Welcome

The DYW; Developing the Young Workforce page will now be active and share information for Employers, Parents, Pupils and the Nairn Community to access through the Nairn Academy website.

The page is designed to share current vacancies/apprenticeship information that local employers are offering for school leavers, working very closely with;

SDS – Skills Development Scotland &  Developing the Young Workforce hosted Chamber of Commerce

Highland Council also have created a website to support young learners with their career choices, work placements and application process. Information on current vacancies via hihope.org

This is an online resource listing what is out there for young people leaving school in the Highlands. It is aimed at the 14+ to 24 age group. It will also be of relevance to anyone who supports young people at this stage in their life.

The directory is sub-divided into six categories containing information about choices, opportunities and services available in Highland and beyond, to support transition for all young people from school into adulthood.

An easy read section is included to enable understanding and to promote discussion of the content of the Directory for young people with additional support needs.

Skills for Learning, Life and Work

We will also share what we are currently doing in School in relation to Skills for Learning, Life and Work agenda.

School Displays; we have been working hard to develop school displays for every subject area highlighting possible careers in those subjects as well as possible alternative pathways, desirable skills, examples of Employers, qualifications, possible salary and what areas the career fits in to. Pupils will engage with these displays and start to establish a dialogue of their own to support

Career and Learner Pathway Event 2017

The Career and Learner Pathway Event was a massive success in 2016, a lot of hard work went into the organisation from the Parent Council and School Staff. This year it will be even bigger and better. We are currently working with the Chamber of Commerce to support us with career areas that were not present at the event last year.

Any Employers in the local area reading this information and would like to start building links with the school – please get in touch!
